When Layer Cubs won their football league in their last season together some parents and boys thought it would be a
shame for them not to be able to play on as a team. So Phil Yearling, Lucy and Richard Smith and Andy Stallan decided to form
a team to play within the Colchester
and District Youth League; and so Layer Colts was born.
With
boys aged Under 12 and some eligible to play at Under 11 the team competed in the "C" League at Under 12, 2003-2004 season.
Performing creditably and learning all the time the team finished 3rd from bottom in their first season. There was a marked
improvement the following season when the team proudly finished 5th in the "C" League. This success, combined with the pleasant environment, attracted many more players, both locally
and from other clubs; so much so that for 2005-2006 Layer Colts was represented both at Under 13 and Under 14 in the Colchester and District Youth League. In their first season the Under 13's proudly finished third in
their league, showing the capability to compete with the better teams around and gaining promotion to the "C" Division, whilst
the Under 14's won promotion to the "B" League and were "C" league champions, winning all but one drawn game they also competed
well in the cup competitions, beating a "B" League team and losing narrowly to "A" League opposition.
Club Colours are White and Black.
